This section explains exactly what our panel is and what its goals are for both this magazine and the strategy guides we produce. Our panel consists of invited members who are an active part of their gaming community. What It IsWe've been writing strategy guides for quite a few years now, having done the most recent books for EQ, UO, Asheron's Call, Dark Age of Camelot, and Anarchy Online. We soon realized we needed help researching and playing the games, so we went out and recruited about 100 of the most enthusiastic MOG players we could find (some from each game). This "Uberpanel" of players helps us out with books and provides the core of our freelancers for the magazine. How it WorksWhat we ask of our panelists varies a bit from book to book (and from issue
to issue for the magazine). A lot of it depends on exactly how much time we
have, and how much information we can get from the team. (Sometimes information
isn't in a particularly accessible form on their servers. For the magazine, we'll have panellists writing articles and columns, getting us screenshots, getting involved in Beta tests of various games and giving us updates, staying involved in active MOGs and letting us know what the news is for different guilds, servers, etc., and participating in discussions with developers. Joining the Advisor's PanelAs mentioned above, we keep close tabs on the gaming communities and issue personal invites to people we feel would both enjoy and contribute to our panel activities. We like to keep the group small enough so that it's close-knit and manageable, and for this reason, we can no longer accept public applications. However, if you're an active, respected player in your gaming community, who knows ... we may just come looking for you! (A recommendation from an existing panel member never hurts, either.)
